CoDi
CoDi (Cobro Digital) is a free payment platform Banco de México launched nationwide on September 30, 2019, letting Mexican bank customers pay each other by scanning a QR code or tapping two phones together over NFC. The person collecting payment generates a request on their banking app; once the payer accepts it, the transfer settles through SPEI if the two accounts sit at different banks, or as an internal transfer if they share one. As of 2026, Banxico obligates 34 named SPEI participants — including Mexico’s largest retail banks — to support CoDi; other SPEI participants may offer it voluntarily. The platform carries no additional commission for either side of the transaction. Because it rides on SPEI, CoDi moves Mexican pesos between domestic bank accounts only; it does not send US dollars or cross international borders.
